Unbelievably I've caught the HFMD from dunno where. Sounds like a serious disease, but after reading a dozen of websites, it's actually a very common mild disease among children. The only thing is that I'm not a child...

HFMD = Hand Foot Mouth Disease

The journey continues up to the peak of Mt Kinabalu

As we're about to start hiking up to the peak

Sun rising

We woke up at 1.30am to prepare for the climb up to the peak, thinking that we were earlier than other ppl. However, even before our alarms started ringing, I could hear voices outside the room, and ppl walking around. We started the climb at 2.15am at a slow and consistent pace. But as the air is getting thinner and colder, we started to slow down a lot esp after the Sayat Sayat hut, the final checkpoint before we reach the peak. We were gasping for air with every step we take. As we reached the 8km, marker, just about 750m away from the peak, we eventually stopped to eat. I couldn't withstand the hunger anymore. I guess I didn't eat enough before the journey. After forcing down a bar of Snickers (too cold and tired that I didn't have the apetite to eat), I quickly continue. Couldn't rest too long, else I would probably get frozen.

At that point of time, I knew that I couldn't reach the peak to see the sun rising, I took my own sweet time to climb and finally reached the peak around at 6.30am. The first thing I did was of course to get the camera out from my pouch and started to snap photos. The view is breathtaking. :surprised:

On the way up to Laban Rata

A view of the mount from Garden Lodge, Kinabalu Park
First km of the hike

Woke up early around 6.15am to get prepared for the climb. The sky is already very bright around 6++ am. Left for Tambang Gate, the starting point for Mesilau trail around 7.15am. Reached Tambang Gate and started hiking around 8am. We had to hike 5.7km before meeting the Summit Trail (started fr Timpohon Gate) and then another 1km before reaching the Laban Rata Resthouse. All along the way, we barely stop and each time we rested for only about 5min. According to the guide, it's best that we take about 5min rest only, if it's more, we'll be slowed down, and feel more tired to continue. Alas, after almost 8 hours of hiking, we finally reached Laban Rata around 4pm. Thank goodness the weather was fine all the way up.. no rain.

waa... finally.. !! more picture plzzzzz.. hehehe Fri 28-Apr-2006 14:04
